How an eyebrow transplant works
Eyebrow hair is unlike any other hair on the body: it grows almost flat against the skin, changes direction across the brow and consists of fine, single hairs. A successful eyebrow transplant respects all three facts. The surgeon selects individual follicular units with the finest calibre, most often from the nape of the neck, and implants them one by one into pre-planned positions. Each graft is angled just a few degrees from the skin surface and oriented to match the natural pattern: upward near the inner brow, gradually flattening and fanning outward toward the tail. Because the work is done hair by hair under magnification, the finished brow looks and moves naturally rather than appearing drawn on or uniform.
Designing the right brow for your face
Brow design is a collaboration. Before the procedure, the surgeon maps the shape with you: the start point, the arch position, the tail length and the overall thickness, balanced against your facial proportions, age and personal style. Some patients want subtle reinforcement of existing brows; others need full reconstruction after years of overplucking, scarring or hair loss conditions. We draw the design on the skin, refine it with you in the mirror and only proceed once you approve it. This is a permanent aesthetic decision, so we deliberately favour timeless, natural shapes over fashion-driven extremes, and we say so openly if a requested shape is likely to age poorly.
The procedure and recovery, step by step
On the day, the approved design is confirmed and the donor zone is prepared. Under local anaesthesia, the required single-hair grafts are extracted, inspected under magnification and implanted into the brow line one by one. The session typically takes three to four hours. Afterwards, expect mild redness and pin-sized crusts along the brows for about a week; most patients are comfortable in public within days and back at work almost immediately. The transplanted hairs usually shed within the first weeks before regrowing permanently from around month three. Fuller definition develops between months six and nine, with the mature result by twelve months, protected by our 18-month written growth guarantee.
Living with transplanted eyebrows
Because the grafts originate from scalp-type hair, they keep some of that character: transplanted brow hairs grow slightly faster and longer than native brow hair. Maintenance is simple, a brief trim every week or two and occasional shaping, and your surgeon shows you exactly how. In return you get what no cosmetic tattoo or serum can offer: real, living hairs with natural texture, colour and movement that never fade or smudge. The included PRP support session encourages strong early growth, and lifetime follow-up at our Den Haag clinic means any question, at any stage, is answered by the medical team that treated you.
