Sapphire FUE

What makes Sapphire FUE different?

Follicular Unit Extraction removes individual follicular units from the donor area with a fine punch, leaving no linear scar. Sapphire FUE upgrades the most delicate stage of the operation: channel opening. Instead of steel slits, the surgeon creates the recipient sites with blades cut from single-crystal sapphire. Sapphire blades are exceptionally smooth and keep their sharpness throughout the session, so each V-shaped micro-channel is smaller, cleaner and matched precisely to the length and thickness of the graft. The practical benefits are less tissue trauma and swelling, reduced crust formation, quicker healing and, crucially, the possibility of opening channels closer together. That allows a higher number of grafts per square centimetre, which translates directly into a denser, more natural-looking result.

Your Sapphire FUE procedure day

The day starts with a final surgeon consultation at our Den Haag clinic: donor assessment, graft planning and hairline design agreed together with you. After local anaesthesia, follicular units are extracted from the back and sides of the scalp and sorted by size under magnification. The surgeon then opens the recipient channels with sapphire blades, setting the angle, direction and depth of each future hair, before the grafts are placed one by one into their channels. A session typically lasts six to eight hours, including breaks. You go home the same day with a full medication and aftercare kit, clear written instructions and direct contact details for our medical team, available in English, Dutch, Turkish, German and Arabic.

Healing and results: what to expect

One of the main reasons patients choose Sapphire FUE is the smooth recovery. The micro-channels close quickly, crusting is limited and most patients are back at work within days. We see you for the first wash and check-up, and your included PRP session supports healing and early growth. The transplanted hairs usually shed between weeks two and eight before the follicles restart, with new growth appearing from month three to four. Density builds steadily through months six to nine, and the final result matures at twelve to eighteen months. Progress is reviewed at scheduled follow-ups, and your outcome is protected by an 18-month written growth guarantee, in writing, from a clinic you can actually revisit.

Sapphire FUE vs DHI: an honest comparison

Sapphire FUE and DHI are the two leading implantation methods, and MyHaar performs both at a high level. Sapphire FUE separates channel opening and graft placement, which makes it extremely efficient for large sessions and extensive balding areas while still achieving excellent density. DHI implants each graft directly with a Choi pen, offering the finest control for hairline detail and for adding density between existing hairs without a full shave. Neither technique is universally better; the right choice depends on your hair loss stage, donor capacity, hair characteristics and goals. At your free consultation in Den Haag, the surgeon explains both options transparently and recommends what serves your result, not what serves a sales target.

Who is a good candidate for Sapphire FUE?

Sapphire FUE suits most patterns of androgenetic hair loss, from a receding hairline to advanced thinning across the crown, provided the donor area is strong enough to supply the required grafts. It is often the preferred method when larger areas need coverage in a single session of up to 5,500 grafts. Good general health, a stable hair loss pattern and realistic expectations complete the picture. If your hair loss is still evolving quickly, our surgeons may recommend stabilising it first, or supporting the plan with PRP treatment. Every assessment at MyHaar starts with an honest medical evaluation; if a transplant is not in your interest, we will tell you so.

Patient voices

What our patients say

I researched clinics for over a year before deciding on MyHaar. The coordinator answered every question honestly, and the surgeon spent 30 minutes designing my hairline before we started. Twelve months later the result is exactly what they showed me on day one. Worth every euro.

Sapphire FUE · 3,400 grafts

Forty-eight years old and tired of disappearing hair. The team at MyHaar set realistic expectations — they were honest that I needed a conservative design at my age, and the result looks like me ten years younger, not a wig. Lifetime follow-up is real; my coordinator still checks in.

FAQ

Common questions

How long does a hair transplant take?

Most procedures take between 6 and 8 hours depending on the number of grafts and the chosen technique.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients describe it as comfortable, with only mild discomfort during the anesthetic injections.

When will I see results?

Initial growth typically starts around month 3 to 4. Full results appear at 12 to 18 months after the procedure.

Are the results permanent?

Yes. Transplanted follicles are taken from genetically resistant zones and continue to grow permanently in their new location.

How soon can I return to work?

Most patients return to work within 3 to 5 days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for two weeks.

Is local or general anesthesia used?

All procedures at Hang Da use local anesthesia. You remain comfortably awake throughout, can listen to music, watch films, eat, and use your phone. General anesthesia is unnecessary and carries higher risk for an elective scalp procedure.

How many grafts will I need?

It depends on your hair loss pattern, donor capacity, and the density you want to achieve. Norwood 3 cases typically need 2,500–3,500 grafts; Norwood 4–5 need 3,500–5,000; advanced cases up to 6,500 across one or two sessions. Your free consultation includes a precise estimate.

Will the result look natural?

Yes. Modern Sapphire FUE and DHI place follicles at the exact angle, direction, and density of natural growth. Hairlines are designed in advance based on your facial proportions and approved by you before any incision is made.
