What makes the best hair transplant clinic in the Netherlands?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure with a result you will wear for the rest of your life. Clinics rarely differ in technique alone, because FUE and DHI are widely offered. They differ in the details: careful planning, honesty about your donor area, clear written agreements and support until the final result, which only becomes visible after 12 to 18 months. "Best" is therefore personal: the clinic that fits your situation and expectations.
The 12-point checklist at a glance

- Who does what? Doctor, surgeon or technician, and is it written down?
- Honest consultation: is your donor area assessed, and are you told what is not possible?
- Written quote: does it state what is and isn't included?
- Written guarantee: how long, what is covered and under which conditions?
- Aftercare: which follow-up appointments are scheduled, and until when?
- Before/after photos: genuine, consistently lit and with a timeline?
- Technique: does DHI, FUE or a combination suit your situation?
- Setting and hygiene: where, under which anaesthesia and after which pre-op checks?
- Complications: what happens if something goes wrong, and who can you reach?

- Red flags: any pressure selling, unrealistic promises or a suspiciously low price?
The 12 points explained
1. Who performs which step?
A hair transplant involves several steps: hairline design, graft extraction, creating the recipient channels and implanting the grafts. In many clinics, trained assistants or technicians carry out part of this work. That need not be a problem, as long as you know in advance who does what and who is ultimately responsible. In the Netherlands, you can check the public BIG register to see whether a doctor or nurse is registered as a healthcare professional. Not every title in hair surgery is a protected specialty, so also ask about hands-on experience.

2. An honest consultation and a realistic donor assessment
The donor area, usually the back and sides of the head, is limited and does not grow back. A good clinic first assesses how many grafts can be taken safely, how your hair loss is likely to progress (for example on the Norwood scale) and whether you are a suitable candidate at all. Sometimes the honest advice is to wait, to discuss medication such as minoxidil or finasteride with a doctor first, or to start with a smaller procedure.

3. A written quote: what is included?
Never compare "from" prices or price per graft alone. Ask for a written quote listing the estimated number of grafts, technique, medication, aftercare products, follow-ups and any additional treatments.

4. A growth guarantee in writing
A verbal promise is worth little. Ask whether the guarantee is in writing, how long it runs, what it covers and which conditions apply. Since the final result takes 12 to 18 months, a shorter guarantee has limited value.

5. Aftercare and a fixed follow-up schedule
Swelling peaks in the first days, days 4 to 10 follow a washing protocol while scabs come off, and between weeks 2 and 8 "shock loss" is common and normal. Regrowth usually starts at 3 to 6 months. A good clinic schedules check-ups until the final result.

6. Before/after photos: genuine, consistent and dated
Look for the same lighting and angle before and after, dry and unstyled hair, the number of grafts and how many months after surgery the photo was taken. Ask for cases similar to your own.

7. Does the technique fit your situation?
There is no best technique in general, only the best technique for you. DHI offers precise control of angle and direction and suits hairlines, eyebrows and no-shave treatments. Sapphire FUE suits larger areas. A clinic offering only one technique will always recommend it.

- Pressure selling, such as "this discount is only valid today" or a deposit before you have read the quote.
